Alex Winter

CEO and Founder

Alex is both a computer vision geek and a repeat tech entrepreneur. Born and raised in France, a proud Brooklynite today, Alex is the CEO and founder of Placemeter. Prior to placemeter, Alex co-founded LTU Technologies, a venture backed startup, pioneer in large scale image search by content. As a CTO then CEO of the company, Alex helped bring LTU to profitability in three years. LTU was successfully acquired by a Japanese company listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

Prior to LTU, Alex was a researcher in Computer Vision at INRIA. He also worked at Airbus, building vision based missile guidance systems. Alex holds an MSc and a PhD in Image Recognition from Telecom ParisTech, holds 9 patents in the field. Alex also advises various startups in New York, and is a mentor of the Techstars NYC program.

Florent Peyre

COO and Co-Founder

Florent Peyre is the Co-Founder & President of Placemeter. Previously, Florent started Casahop, a social travel company focused on the home exchange space along with Paul Berry, the ex-CTO of the Huffington Post and now CEO of Rebelmouse. The company was backed by Lerer Ventures, First Round Capital and a few other prominent investors. Prior to that, Florent served as the Vice President of Strategy & Business Development for Gilt City, member of the Gilt Groupe and was one of its founding members, scaling the business to 150 employees and multi-million dollars revenue per month. Florent was also running national sales for the company.

Prior to joining Gilt City, Florent presided over Hachette Filipacchi Media’s Emerging Platforms group and launched several mobile and iPad applications for Hachette’s brands. Before that, he handled corporate and business development for Hachette’s digital division. There he signed several strategic deals including the launch of a new lifestyle destination for Microsoft (Glo), after spending a few years in M&A for the parent of Hachette, French media company Lagardere. Florent also currently serves as an advisor to several NY startups and as a mentor to SeedStart NY and First Growth Venture Networks. He holds an MA in International Law degree from Sorbonne University and a Masters’ degree from Sciences Po Paris.
